We're delighted to introduce Michal Witonski as Off to Work's newest Client and Staffing Manager for Bristol and Southwest.
Taking a break from a busy schedule of managing client bookings, Michal chatted to us about where his love for hospitality began and his tips for those starting out in the industry.
What first sparked your love for hospitality?
For me it was a passion for people. I enjoy collaborating with people and making them happy.
I have a love for food and working in fast paced and dynamic environments.
This led to me finding my first role in hospitality working at the Barcelo Combe Grove Manor Hotel, and it all went from there.
Tell us about your experience coming from Hotel Du Vin?
There are many facets of my experience at Hotel Du Vin which align with the values of Off to Work, the guest focus culture being one of the things I really admire about both companies.
The employees are always willing to go the extra mile to ensure that guests have a positive experience.
I have seen this first hand on numerous occasions, and it is always impressive to see how the employees go above and beyond to make guests happy.
Another thing that I appreciated about Hotel Du Vin is the focus on professionalism and attention to detail.
The employees are always well-dressed and groomed, and they take pride in their work. This attention to detail is evident in everything from the cleanliness of the hotel to the presentation of the food.
Finally, I would like to mention the welcoming and enjoyable environment that Hotel Du Vin creates for both guests and employees, and this is definitely something I’ll be focusing on replicating with clients and team members in the South West.
What inspired you to first join Off to Work?
I was inspired to first join Off to Work because of the opportunity to use my skills and knowledge from the hospitality industry, the diverse range of clients and events, and to be a part of a supportive and forward-thinking team.
I have always been passionate about hospitality, and I’m excited to apply my skills gained from years in the industry to help our clients create incredible experiences for their guests.
I am also excited about the opportunity to work with a diverse range of clients and events. I believe that this will allow me to learn new things, expand my horizons and make a positive contribution to Off to Work and to the hospitality industry.
Finally, I am looking forward to being a part of a supportive and forward-thinking team. I was excited to learn about Off to Work’s plans to achieve B Corp certification, and I’m excited to be part of a company which is committed to excellence.
What do you hope to bring to your new role?
My ability to communicate with a wide variety of stakeholders, coupled with my understanding of the requirements of hospitality recruitment.
I’ve always enjoyed building strong relationships with guests and colleagues alike, and I’m looking forward to collaborating with clients on some of the most amazing events this country has to offer.
Lastly, attention to detail, an absolute must for anyone working in events!
What is your career highlight?
I believe it’s still to come, but one highlight from the past was organising jam sessions after the Rawa Blues Festival.
This is the world's largest indoor blues festival held in Katowice, Poland. Seeing legends of the blues music scene collaborating and creating in a cosy space made for an unforgettable memory.
From an Off to Work perspective, being able to visit Cheltenham Festival to assist the team with the sign in at the Gold Cup Festival was an incredible way to start my OTW journey.
What is your one piece of advice for people joining the hospitality industry?
Be passionate and enthusiastic and be willing to learn and be open for feedback.
Focus on customer service, make sure you always friendly, attentive, and professional.
But most importantly of all: take care of yourself. Hospitality can be a physically and mentally demanding industry, so it is important to get enough rest, eat well, and find ways to manage stress.
What is one thing you wish you knew ten years ago?
The fact that mindfulness and self-awareness can improve focus and productivity, and overall wellbeing.
What opportunities are you look forward to creating for team members and clients in Bristol and the South West?
I’m keen to share my knowledge and hospitality experience with our casual team, to improve their understanding, skills, and knowledge. This will help them in their career path and allow them to take on more senior roles at our client’s events.
I’d love to see clients from Bristol and the South West region taking advantage of free spaces on our training programmes which we save for their team members, or perhaps promoting their work or venue via the Event Photography Awards, which we sponsor.
What’s your favourite bar or restaurant in Bristol?
Beer Emporium in Bristol – the perfect place for beer enthusiast like me. They have an extensive selection of local and international beer so there is always something new to try. They also do a really nice pizza!
