Hey there, extrovert! So we hear you’re a people person? Well, in a people-oriented industry like hospitality, you are the perfect fit!
You’re probably intuitive, analytical and a motivated strategic leader. Having these qualities aid your performance in the service industry because leadership skills (not to mention your charming personality) help you motivate people and help them achieve their goals. You’re probably pretty observant and can spot problems and devise a solution before guests have even noticed.
Your innate drive to lead others will make your colleagues and customers feel engaged and connected with you. If you enjoy having daily contact with guests, you’ll feel right at home in a Front of House role, so why not try being a Bartender or a Front of House Manager?
If this sounds like you, here are some roles that would be perfect for your personality!
TOP 4 HOSPITALITY ROLES FOR EXTROVERTS
1. Bartender
Average starting salary: £18,790 per year
Bartenders not only serve up delicious drinks, they are also avid multi-taskers who can whip up some liquid sunshine in a glass whilst staying highly engaged with guests - I mean, who doesn’t love a good chat with the bartender? If a customer isn't sure what they want, a good bartender should be able to ask a few questions about the customers’ needs and preferences and make some recommendations.
Additional duties may include serving snacks to their guests and prepping bar garnishes like lemon slices before the shift. Being a good bartender also means being able to make your guests feel comfortable and sharing the occasional chit chat with them. So if you are a person that is energised by time spent with others this role definitely suits you!
2. Host/Hostess
Average pay in London: £21,490 per year
Host or hostesses are the first greeting point and they make guests feel welcome. If you’re an extrovert it should come in your nature to make your customers feel comfortable, so this role may be a perfect fit! Hosts/hostesses are stationed near the entryway to greet guests as they arrive and depart. They will take reservations, put guests on a waiting list, answer phones, walk customers to their seats and provide menus. They may also assist other restaurant staff when necessary.
3. Head Waiter/Captain
Average salary: £21,000 per year
Head Waiters usually lead the wait staff, bussers and host staff to provide the foremost customer service possible. They will also serve their own tables and act as supervisors, reporting to the Front of House Manager. You should be a superstar multi-tasker and able to make quick decisions to succeed in this position. Extroverts will often take the lead on organising without hesitation because they want to make sure that everyone is taken care of, these are the qualities that a Head Waiter should have!
4. Front of House (FOH) Manager

Reporting to the General Manager, the FOH manager oversees all FOH employees. They interview and hire new staff, create schedules and handle customer complaints, and record the day’s earnings at the end of a shift. If you are analytical and objective and enjoy taking charge, this might suit you! You need to be open for people to feel comfortable around you, but professional enough to bring order around you.
Given that extroverts tend to feel reinvigorated by socialising and meeting new people, you’ll be an asset within an industry that aims to make people feel at home every day. Check out open roles and if any of them sound like something you would enjoy doing, then give it a try!
