As part of his 'Doorstep Art' photography project, Harry Pseftoudis caught up with Managing Director Philip Atkins and asked a few questions.
Up to now the support from the Government has been okay and that is the general perception across the industry. The current dithering, uncertainty and unwillingness to press forward with the re-opening of the industry means that they are causing unnecessary and untold long term damage to the industry and those who work in it. Further support will have to be given if this continues past August.
The positives so far? Greater synergy and camaraderie between the team across the country with all those who have remained active in the business working closely together on a daily basis. Daily short touch ins with the team have been good and it is has reset what success is in a nice way: with so little going on every little gain is seen as exciting and a big win which has been nice. Almost goes back to being a start-up and having to grow the business from the ground up which while challenging brings a lot of positivity with it.
I have been able to do a Podcast series engaging with industry leaders which is something I have wanted to do for a long time. Called “One Amazing Experience” it talks them through how they would organise their own party (venue, catering, entertainment etc) while also discussing how they have built their business up, stepping stones on the way, influences and learnings for others. It has been insightful, fun and well received by listeners.
My earliest expectation is from October onwards for large events. There will be elements of Covid control with greater space per guest, hand sanitisation and hygiene controls. I am hopeful that it will not impact the guest experience too much.
I miss the buzz of enabling amazing experiences both for guests and our team. The adrenalin fuelled nature of event staffing with fixed timelines and ever changing logistical challenges. Working with and supporting genuinely caring, creative and dynamic clients often putting on events in some of the most beautiful buildings in the world.
